The weather may not have cooperated for Meaghan and Alec’s wedding day, but the rain certainly didn’t take away from the celebration. If anything, their intimate lakeside ceremony felt even more memorable because of it.
Meaghan and Alec were married on the dock at their lake house in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, surrounded by a small group of their closest family and friends. Guests gathered in the yard with umbrellas as the two exchanged vows over the water. A family friend officiated the ceremony and did a wonderful job making it feel personal and meaningful.
Meaghan recently lost her mom unexpectedly and there were so many thoughtful ways her mom was included throughout the wedding. Meaghan wore pieces of her mother’s jewelry, a chair was reserved for her at the ceremony where she placed a single rose, and Meaghan recreated one of her mom’s own wedding photographs. These details were a beautiful way to keep her memory present throughout such an important day.
After the ceremony, we spent some time taking photographs at their lake house before everyone headed to The Barn at Wight Farm in Sturbridge for the reception. More guests joined Meaghan and Alec there, turning the intimate ceremony into a much larger celebration with family and friends who had come from so many different parts of their lives.
The reception included toasts from the Maid of Honor and Best Man that spoke to their longtime friendships with Meaghan and Alec and gave everyone a glimpse into just how special these two are to the people closest to them. Meaghan shared dances with both her dad and stepdad, while Alec danced with a close family friend before the dance floor opened for the night.
It didn’t take long to understand why so many people were excited to celebrate with them. Meaghan and Alec both have such a warm and welcoming presence, and they made a point to spend time with everyone throughout the reception. From visiting with their guests to spending plenty of time on the dance floor, they truly seemed to enjoy every part of the celebration.
Rain or not, it was a beautiful wedding day and a wonderful celebration of Meaghan and Alec, their families, and the people who mean the most to them.
